The Swiss Pavilion 2017 represents the work of the artists Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler and Carol Bove. The initial source is the work of Alberto Giacometti and his relationship with the biennial.
Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler created the work “Flora”, dedicated to “Flora Mayo”, Giacometti’s acquaintance in his early years in Paris where they’ve studied together. The artists reconstruct and restage the life and work of Flora during her time in Paris. Furthermore, Flora’s son tells the story of his mother’s return to the US after 1933.
The projection, consisting of a front and a rear side, show on one side scenes of the life of Flora during her time in Paris and on the other side extracts of interviews. The viewers can follow the projections regardless from which side of the screen they stand.
Tweaklab was commissioned with the overall media technical planning and realization of the double-sided film projection, the editing of the sound on site, the programming and the installation.
Duration of the exhibition: 13.05.–26.11.2017
