To the moon via the beach
LUMA Foundation

The idea to organise the festival "To the moon via the beach" stems from Liam Gillick and Philippe Parreno. They put it in these words: "This is an exhibition about work, production and change – ideas in constant motion. A moonscape will be created around which artists will develop new ideas. Everything will be visible – no difference between production, presentation and exchange." Tom Eccles, Liam Gillick, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Philippe Parreno and Beatrix Ruf curated the exhibition, the LUMA Foundation produced it for "Parc des Ateliers" in Arles. Zoë Gray and Marc Bättig Management were the producers. The festival took place at the amphitheatre in Arles from 05.07. to 08.07.2012.

Tweaklab documented the mostly performative works of the 18 artists like Lawrence Weiner, Pierre Huyghe, Uri Aran, Douglas Gordon, by having Hans Ulrich Obrist conduct interviews with each of them. Furthermore they shot a documentary film with additional statements of the artists. The setup, the whole time during the festival as well as the dismantling of the installations after the festival in the entire arena were recorded in the form of a time-lapse video document.
