Glarner Textildruck
Freulerpalast, Museum des Landes Glarus, Näfels

The new permanent exhibition in the Freulerpalast traces the 250-year history of textile printing, a key economic sector for the region as well as for the industrialization of Switzerland.

Using historical imagery, two expansive projections portray the Glarus region as the starting point for technical innovations, social advances by the workforce and global trade.

Using interactive digital stations, visitors can discover the possibilities and challenges of textile design and printing: on one of the touchscreens, they can draw their own pattern for a Glarnertüechli or compile one from historical templates and subsequently send it to production. At another station, printing forms, known as blocks, are used to print on a touchscreen. The blocks have to be placed on the surface in the correct order and with the greatest possible precision, just as they once had to be in the print shop.

Tweaklab was commissioned with the media technology planning, programming and installation of the media stations, and also produced the videos from historical imagery as well as recording and mixing the accompanying audio.
