Gender & Sex. Discover now
Stapferhaus Lenzburg

Hearing and seeing more about «gender and sex», gaining new perspectives and taking part in the current discussion – this is what the new exhibition at the Stapferhaus Lenzburg offers.

Tweaklab was commissioned with the media technical planning, programming and installation of the media stations.
Our services included coordinating the interfaces between the various creators of the video and audio content, as well as the programming needed to synchronise the media stations and the lighting control.
We set up a special service tool for the staff, which allows them to control film clips and media stations via mobile phone during guided tours, for example.

The fourfold video installation with room-filling sound in the octagonal introductory room covers the entire room. We installed the video projections with seamless transition and aligned them with the door opening and lighting controls.
The well-established Tweaklab handsets prove particularly effective in the «Garden of Diversity» and in the «Role Models and Equality» room. The respective audio file starts automatically as soon as the handset is lifted.
In a photo boot, the visitors are instructed to strike male and female poses. A camera captures these moments and the resulting images are simultaneously projected next to the person in the booth for a short time. The person can see himself and his poses in the mirror opposite. Afterwards the pictures are deleted. Things get funny in the «gender room». There, two genitals, which are brought to life by means of projection, talk to each other. The stage controls with motorised curtain, light control and starting of the simultaneous video files were created by Tweaklab.
A lot of telephone receivers hang above a huge bed. When a number is dialed, thematic messages from different people are played.
A synchronous triple video projection covers several round surfaces in the room. The projection shows people talking about their experiences on the topic. Things get more personal in the smaller booths, where mobile phones with the same questions are available and encourage discussion in a private setting.
The exhibition ends with a visual firework: in a projected kaleidoscope, people reveal their wishes on how the topic of gender and sex should be dealt with from their point of view. For this purpose, seven monitors and two projectors were synchronised and installed by us.
