The Miracle of Transmission
St. Gall Abbey Archive

In the exhibition hall of the Abbey District you can see the original "St. Gall Abbey Plan", created around 825. It is the main attraction along with other important legal documents from the early middle ages.

Tweaklab was commissioned with the entire media technical planning, programming of the media stations and exhibition control system, as well as with the installation of the media stations.

If you enter the first hall, you will find yourself in the middle of the "Theatrum". This auditorium offers the possibility to use the space for individual events and guided tours, or to start the documentary film "The Miracle of Transmission" on a built-in tablet. This video documentation gives an insight into the archiving of early-medieval documents, by means of interviews and animations.
In addition, several touch-screen stations provide extensive information about the text documents on display.
Another media station consists of a table with a hand crank, which can be used to turn the table by 180 degrees. On one side of the table there is a relief of the region. Using a built-in tablet you can call up various topics such as "Places of Power". A projection now plays the selected animated film onto the relief.
The highlight of the exhibition is the original abbey plan, which is located in a separate room. Above the entrance door, the remaining time until the next show is displayed. As soon as the doors open and the visitors are in the room, the show starts: The double doors close, the light is dimmed and a lovingly animated film tells about the life of a fictitious monk in the Abbey of St. Gall. At the end, the monastery model is raised and the original plan can be seen for a few seconds. The model then moves down again and the doors are opened.
Tweaklab planned, programmed and installed the entire show with entrance display, light, video and moving of the model for this installation, too. The customized mechanical constructions were planned and implemented by Kornel Vogt.
