The exhibition “Dished up – Of Hanging Gardens and Mushroom Garages” conveys the topic “Urban Agriculture/Urban Gardening” to the public. The city residents’ interest in this subject is growing. The first exhibition at the new centre for plants and education of the City Gardens Zurich is dedicating itself to this theme. Green City Zurich is presenting various visions on it.
Five media stations, planned, programmed and installed by Tweaklab, are inviting the visitors to approach the subject in a playful way. Very popular are the two bicycle stations: Here a video projection about guerilla gardening is being played when activated through an exercise bike. The speed of cycling has a direct impact on the speed with which the film is played back. The exercise bike is equipped with earphones. Other visitors can listen to the sound through headphones, too. If the cyclist rides along slowly, it is not only relevant to the speed of the pictures, but also to the soundtrack. Which means the sound becomes lower and unintelligible at low speed. However, by pressing a pushbutton the film can be started in normal speed at any time. Various animal voices can be activated via the pushbuttons in the guessing game “Bell Panel”. To find out which animal belongs to the voice the picture of the corresponding animal is lit up through a light control. Tweaklab did the programming of the sound- and light control and the installation of the station. Other video stations, like for example “Potato War” are also operable through pushbuttons. The “Table Installation with Cloches” is activated when the cloche is lifted. On both of two 7” screens a video is played, one of them with loudspeakers inside the cloche, the other without any sound. Three more Tweaklab MP3 players with headphones are activated in order to receive more information. At the end of the tour through the exhibition there is a small cinema installed featuring a longer programme about the wide variety of urban gardening.
Duration of the exhibition: 13.05.–18.10.2015
